RCMP investigating robbery, including violence with a baseball bat
The Queens District RCMP and the P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Unit are currently investigating a break, enter and robbery with violence in Donaldston.
A 911 call came in at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The call ended before police got an address, but a trace showed it came from a residence in Donaldston. When RCMP arrived, no one was home.
“Signs of a break and enter and assault were obvious,” said an RCMP report issued Monday.
The occupants of the residence were found at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital a short time later. The two people at the hospital told police that three unknown suspects entered their home while they were sleeping.
The suspects struck the male occupant with baseball bats several times.
The suspects then stole an undisclosed amount of cash and other personal items from the residence before fleeing.
The male victim was treated for his injuries and released from hospital. The female was not injured during the incident. The three suspects have not yet been identified, and the RCMP investigation is ongoing.
The RCMP believes the victims were specifically targeted in this incident and that there is no heightened risk to the public.
The RCMP is asking anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact the Queens District RCMP Office, the P.E.I. RCMP Major Crime Office or P.E.I. Crime Stoppers anonymously via P.E.I. Crime Stoppers.
