Mildred Savidant has a strong record of supporting local heritage, arts and culture in and around the city of Summerside.

Savidant has educated Summerside and area residents with her oral history that dates back 100 years, said Gerard Gallant, after presenting her with the Gerard Gallant Award for heritage contributions at the Summerside and Area Historical Society’s annual meeting last week.

Gallant presented the annual award in appreciation for Savidant generously sharing her knowledge to all heritage organizations in Prince County.

“She has assisted both the Acadian Museum and George Arsenault, noted author and historian. She is a major resource to the Wyatt Heritage Property and Archives since their inception in Summerside.”

Savidant’s talent as a chef has also earned her praise, added Gallant.

“When I think of Mildred, I think of what a role model she has been.”

He said the 100-year-old city resident is blessed with a loving family and a strong faith that has allowed her to move forward through difficult times in her in life.

“We will always be thankful for having Mildred in our lives.”

Savidant also received a portrait drawing by Wayne Wright in appreciation for her contributions over the years to the county and the historical society.
