Collaboration in education
Group awarding $2,500 to projects encouraging collaborative learning
Nominations close April 30 for an Excellence in Education Award, which will be handed out to a project in an Island school that focuses on collaboration.
Education 20/20 Inc. has been giving out the $2,500 education award for five years and this year wanted to reward collaborative learning.
“I believe that collaboration strengthens education,” said Don Glendenning, president of Education 20/20.
“It is an idea of people working together with collaboration, rather than each teacher teaching independently in their own classroom.”
The Excellence in Education Award is available to schools throughout the Island.
Submission can be made in written format and submitted to the office of Community Foundation of P.E.I.
The proposals will be judged by Education 20/20’s board of directors and the money was granted by a private family who wanted to support education.
Bill Whelan, vice-president of Education 20/20., said the group will look at projects highlighting the importance of working as a team.
“We are looking at opportunity for collaboration, not only in teaching, but also for collaboration in different learning sections,” he said.
Whelan said it is a chance for teachers to introduce innovative ideas for improving education by involving members of the community, other teachers and students from other schools.
“Learning doesn’t just take place in schools, it can be in community or homes.”
