The largely attended funeral for Norman Peters, beloved husband of Marie Peters of North Rustico, was held on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, North Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Alrulraj Santiago, who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The concelebra­nt was Reverend Brendon Gallant. The pall was placed on the casket by his family. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by daughter-in-law, Tammy McAleer. The second reading, from II Timothy, was addressed by son-in-law, Dr. Aaron Sibley. Prayers of the faithful were led by Carol Probert. The altar servers were Peter Gallant, Norman Gallant, Curtis Gallant and Joan Doiron. Carl Pineau assisted Father Raj as a Eucharisti­c minister. The music was provided by the church choir with Sister Phyllis Gallant, CND, as organist; and Noreen Down as song leader. The hymns were: Entrance, “Be Not Afraid”; Psalm, “Psalm of the Good Shepherd”, with Jimmy McAleer as cantor; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Celtic Alleluia”, with Jimmy McAleer as cantor; offertory, “Lord, You Have Come”; communion, “Seek Ye First”; post-communion, “Kelly Mooney’s Halleluiah, sung by Janet Doiron; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “How Great Thou Art”. “Fiddler’s Green” was performed by Dr. Cian O Morain, who played the flute, guitar and sang, Mary MacGillivr­ay, who played the shruti box and sang, and Sheila Fitzpatric­k, who played the fiddle and sang. Honorary pallbearer­s were all family, friends and fellow fishers. Pallbearer­s were brothers, Rene, Carl, Keith, Ken and Brendon Peters, and friends, Lee Gallant, James Gallant and Joey Gauthier. Flower bearers were grandchild­ren, Reid and Myra Peters; and Alicia McNally and Shaun MacLean. Among those in attendance were representa­tives from North Rustico Fire Department, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, and the PEIFA (Fishermen’s Associatio­n). Interment took place in the Church Cemetery where Father Raj conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen`s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
