Phase II & Friends at St. Paul’s Church May 6

-

Phase II and Friends will once again take the stage at St. Paul’s Church in downtown Charlottetown on Sunday, May 6, 2 p.m., for the “Summertime Singalong” concert.

It’s designed to help everyone shake off the winter blues and look forward to P.E.I.’s favourite time of year.

“There is nothing better than lively music to lift our spirits and chase the clouds away,” says Gerry Hickey, spokesperson for Phase II.

“We look forward to returning to St. Paul’s, one of our favourite venues. We’ve received such a warm reception from church members and the audiences there.”

He adds that doing the concert in the afternoon is an experiment, to try to make it more convenient for some segments of the audience.

And the idea is for everyone to have good fun — whether by way of singing-along or toe-tap listening.

In keeping with the summer theme, there’ll be tunes by the legendary Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers as well as John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. For country music fans, there will be songs like “Summer’s Comin’” by Clint Black, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” by Hank Williams Jr. and a Johnny Reid song called “Till We Meet Again”.

There is another reason Phase II and Friends are so happy to play in this warm and friendly place. And that has to do with the church’s Outreach and Social Justice Committee.

This committee is made up of very committed people who give freely of their time and energy, in the interest of others, and the members of Phase II admire and respect their efforts, says Hickey.

“For many people in the community, Christmas would not be the same without this group’s generosity, and that is only one aspect of the committee’s interests.”

A significant portion of ticket-sale earnings is being donated to the church’s Outreach and Social Justice projects.

Band members Jeanie Campbell, Keila Glydon, John McGarry, Pat King, Ed Young, Blaine Murphy and Gerry Hickey are issuing an enthusiastic invitation: for a relaxing enjoyable afternoon of great entertainment, they say, “Come join us for the wishful thinking of Summertime Sing-along.”

Admission is $10 at the door, by advance tickets at the church office (902-892-1691) or by contacting Gerry Hickey (902393-3251) or Blaine Murphy (902-393-8379).
