A 42-year-old P.E.I. man who was involved in a bloody brawl has pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon.

James Michael Wright appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown May 3.

Wright and Christopher John Lambe, 44, got into an altercation Nov. 29 at the intersection of Euston and Hillsborough streets in Charlottetown, which resulted in both men being sent to hospital.

It is not clear how the fight started, but witnesses at the scene said Wright was the first to commit physical violence after he struck Lambe more than once on the head with a baseball bat.

When police arrived, Wright was lying on the ground with his jacket covering his head and a great deal of blood on his face and jacket.

Lambe was sitting on the ground near Wright with blood covering his face.

A baseball bat was on the ground between them and was covered in blood.

Lambe suffered a laceration to his skull which resulted in eight staples, and Wright sustained factures to his skull and jaw.

Lambe was sentenced to 7.5 months in jail April 30 for assault causing bodily harm.

A presentence report is being prepared for Wright prior to sentencing.

Wright will be back in court Aug.
