Change needed in voting patterns

-

Justin Trudeau promised it would be the last FPTP (first-pastthe-post) election. Enough voters were fooled and he was elected. Now we know his promise meant nothing.

The P.E.I. election may come soon so Islanders must be ready. Remember the broken promises heard over the years from Liberals and PCs. Remember Gordon Lank’s million-dollar loan to build his factory pig farm? He claimed he would keep the pork processing plant in business? The factory farm, the million-dollar loan and the plant are gone.

So many more questionable government schemes: PNP, Geo Sweep, e-gaming, golf courses - and that’s just scratching the surface. Education, doctors, affordable housing, soup kitchens, food banks, roundabouts, rural amalgamation, not to forget the recent and serious debate over the cow and the fox.

The list is endless, and it must be stopped before the Island belongs to big corporations and outside interests. If we are going to change our political system of lies, greed and corruption we need to change how we vote. Proportional representation will do that — no more wasted votes, no more majority governments with over 60 per cent of votes not counting.

Now is the time to demand an end to FPTP. Islanders, do not be fooled by empty promises again, vote for change, vote for proportional representation in the upcoming election.
