Hurricanes land Island standout

Abby Hyndman set to join Holland College women’s volleyball squad in the fall

The Holland College Hurricanes women’s volleyball team bolstered its lineup for the 201819 season with the addition of Charlottetown native Abby Hyndman.

The five-foot-10 versatile power is a member of the Red Rock under-17 team and completed her final season as the captain of the Colonel Gray Colonels. Colonel Gray finished second last season after backto-back high school championships in Hyndman’s first two years.

“I feel Holland College is a good fit for my athletic and academic goals. I am looking forward to the skills I will learn in my program and how I can apply them to future career options. Volleyball was also a major factor in my decision to enrol at Holland College,” said Hyndman, who’ll be in the graphic design program in September. “The Hurricanes have been a consistently strong volleyball team, and with a good group of student-athletes, excellent coaches, and the opportunity to become a better player at the next level, I decided it was the right place for me.”

The scouting report on Hyndman is that she is a strong offensive player with natural power. Her vertical leap aids in blocking and hitting over and around blocks and she is able to see the court and play smart as well as aggressive. She also has a strong service game.

“We are very excited to add local talent to our roster with Abby,” said Lori-Beth Dwyer, Hurricanes women’s volleyball head coach. “She is a strong and versatile offensive player who will add height and flexibility to our lineup. She has a positive attitude, is hard working and I believe she will achieve great things while at Holland College.”

Hyndman was a member of Team P.E.I. for three seasons followed by time with the Canada Games team in 2017.

She was a finalist for the Volleyball P.E.I. player of the year award in 2017 and 2018 and a high-school all-star from 201517, including being named the MVP in 2016.

She was also the Volleyball P.E.I. under-16 player of the year in 2016.
