Singer plans concert in appreciation
Funds will support performer as she pursues musical goals
Everyone is invited to spend a Sunday afternoon with awardwinning Island performers and up-and-coming young singers at A Celtic and More Fundraising Concert set for May 6, 2-4 p.m., at the BIS Hall, North River Road, Charlottetown.
The concert will feature Cian O’Morain and Mary MacGillivray, P.E.I. fiddler Sheila MacKenzie, Eddy Quinn and friends and Kendall Docherty, along with young Island singers Siobhan Armstrong, Grace Lloyd and Alex Sorenson and Highland dancer Charlotte Armstrong.
Master of ceremonies is Wayne Collins.
Admission is by donation at the door.
There will be a complimentary light lunch, including fudge, and Irish snacks such as King Crisps, Fifteens, and Coddle, as well as a 50/50 draw and a door prize.
Funds raised will support Siobhan Armstrong of Charlottetown as she pursues her musical goals, including acceptance into a prestigious music program in Ireland in June being put on by Ireland’s national choir, Anúna. The summer school music session is being held June 5-9 in Dublin.
Siobhan, 15, has been singing since the age of 5 and currently is studying her grade 6 voice for the Royal Conservatory of Music exams. She attended a free public singing workshop with Anúna, which is dedicated to the sean nós style of traditional Irish singing, when it performed at the Indian River Music Festival here on P.E.I. as part of a North American tour.
Siobhan, is a gold medal and provincial winner at the Kiwanis Music Festival.
Her voice teacher is Suzanne Campbell and her accompanist is Don Fraser, who will perform with her on Sunday afternoon.
Siobhan is also a senior member of the Confederation Youth Chorus and has toured the Vatican in Rome, Disney World and Toronto with the chorus.
She has been a member of I Ragazzi Children’s Choir under the direction of Sung-Ha Shin Bouey.
In addition, Siobhan is part of Lori Linkletter’s musical theatre program at The Guild and has performed in productions of Madagascar, Elf, Fairy Tale Christmas, and Into the Woods. She has also performed in a musical adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
