Ceilidhs are Fridays at St. Peters Circle Club, St. Peters, 7:30-11 p.m., with local entertainment. Admission is $5.

Fiddle doo and pot luck are May 5, 2-6 p.m., at the Murray Christian Centre in Kensington. The program includes fiddlers and singers. Anyone who plays an instrument or likes music will enjoy the afternoon. Donations are at the door. Proceeds (after expenses) go to the Maritime Fiddle Festival.
Helping Hands Band Jamboree is May 5, 7:30 p.m., at St. Anthony’s Hall, Route 2, Woodstock, with funds raised supporting local charities. Admission is at the door. Come and enjoy music, fun and lunch.

The Seniors Active Living Centre, Bell Aliant Centre UPEI is having a ceilidh on May 6, 1:30 p.m. The lineup includes Susan Campbell and Peter Burke and musical friends Brian Knox, Judy Lowe and Heartz Godkin. Special third anniversary ceilidh is at Dunstaffnage School Centre on May 6, 7 p.m., hosted by Roadmasters’ Band, with Ivor Price, Wayne Diamond, Theo Wiegers and David Moore. Got Blues Matinee is Saturdays, 2:30-4:30 p.m., at The Factory Cookhouse, 189 Kent St., Charlottetown, hosted by Got Blues (Chris Roumbanis and friends Reg Ballagh and Mike Robicheau). Each week there is a special guest,
and the second set is always an electric blues jam. On April 28, the guests are singer Theresa Malenfant and guitarist/singer Scott Medford from New Brunswick. The Rock-a-palooza, P.E.I. Schools of Rock Showcase, featuring rock bands from 11 different Island schools ranging from grades 3 to 12 and college level, spanning from up west to up east, is at the Murphy Community Centre, Charlottetown, May 5, 5-8 p.m. This modern version of a school concert, in its eighth year, will see the bands play classic rock favourites, modern hits and even their own original material. Long and McQuade Charlottetown will be on hand giving away door prizes throughout the night. Tickets for the door prizes will be available at the show, and entry will be by donation. All money collected will go back to the event to help improve and sustain this wonderful opportunity for Island students. Forte Men’s Choir, under the direction of Dr. Margot Rejskind, present “Let All Men Sing!” on May 5 at 7 p.m., at Summerside Presbyterian Church, Summerside, and May 6, 2:30 p.m., at the Kirk of St. James, Charlottetown. The program features a wide variety of music, including familiar folk songs and spirituals, contemporary songs and classical favourites. Admission for both concerts is $10 at the door.

A Celtic and More Fundraising Concert is May 6, 2-4 p.m., at the BIS Hall, North River Road, Charlottetown, featuring Cian O’Morain and Mary MacGillivray, Sheila MacKenzie, Eddy Quinn and friends and Kendall Docherty, along with young Island singers Siobhan Armstrong, Grace Lloyd and Alex Sorenson and Highland dancer Charlotte Armstrong. Master of ceremonies is Wayne Collins. Admission is by donation at the door. There will be a complimentary light lunch, including fudge, as well as a 50/50 draw and a door prize. Money raised will benefit Siobhan Armstrong as she pursues her musical goals, including acceptance into a prestigious music program in Ireland in June.

The Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble will perform a big-band cabaret, May 8 at the Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle on Great George Street. Proceeds from the concert will go to Young At Heart Theatre, a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to producing professional, original theatre to enrich the lives of seniors. Special guest performer will be YAH Theatre founder and well-known Island vocalist Catherine O’Brien. Admission is $10 ($5 students). All ages are welcome with adult supervision. Music starts at 7:30 with meals available at 6 p.m.

St. Andrew’s Choir is hosting a fundraising variety concert on May 12, 7 p.m., at St. Andrew’s United Church in Vernon Bridge. The community-based program will feature St. Andrew’s Choir, along with a number of special guests performing styles from gospel to traditional music. Performers include the McRae Family, Matthew Reid, Andrea Ellis and Allison Kelly, our own Sylvia Abikattar-Mutch, and much talent from St. Andrew’s congregation. As well, there will be two pieces of art, up for live auction, from artists Donna Serres and Kenneth Gallant. Funds from this event support the Music Program at St. Andrew’s United Church.
The Nova Scotia Bluegrass band, Roxeen and Dalrymple, will bring their distinctive homegrown Bluegrass sound to Summerside’s Centre 150 on May 13, 2 p.m. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended from John Campbell at 902-439-6830.
