Barber Shop Sessions receives second ECMA nod
The brainchild of Sean Aylward and Brendan Henry has received a second East Coast Music Award Nomination, for media outlet of the year.
The Barber Shop Sessions, which feature Aylward, a musician and Henry’s filmmaking skills have garnered attention and many views since its inception a few years ago.
“We are both really into
music. And we have quite a few friends who are performers but couldn’t find the right outlet to promote their work. So, we turned the idea into a fun advertising tool for us and for the musicians,” said Aylward.
The sessions, held at a Humble Barber location in Summerside or Charlottetown, include a local or touring artist on P.E.I. receiving a haircut, a quick interview and then an in-house music jam.
“We wanted it to be something the musicians could use
to promote their work and something that we all could be proud of,” said Aylward.
“Brendan is very good at what he does. It’s very professional. We didn’t want to do this halfassed.”
This is the series’ second nomination for an
ECMA.
“In this case, we’re seen as a purveyor or promoter of local music, that’s what the nomination is. And it’s super exciting. It’s fantastic to get the nomination,” said Henry, director of
Minotaur Creative, a media and marketing company.
Aylward says Henry puts his blood sweat and tears into the projects.
“But, it really works together because of his shop and the way he puts it all together. But it’s really great that this much attention is being paid to local artists.”
The 2018 East Cost Music Awards is underway May 2-6. The Media Outlet of the Year Award will be presented on Sunday.
