Man arrested for striking Summerside officer with vehicle

Summerside police have arrested a 21-year-old man on several charges, including an incident last month in which one of their officers was struck by a vehicle.

On April 17, Summerside police officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Vogue Optical Plaza.

When the officers arrived and exited the police cruiser to approach the suspect vehicle, the driver of the suspect vehicle tried to flee. The suspect vehicle drove toward one of the officers, who was able to partially move out of the way but was briefly pinned between the car and another vehicle in the adjacent parking space.

The officer was not injured in the incident.

As a result of an ongoing investigation, police identified Rogan Hustler of Nail Pond as being the driver of the suspect vehicle. The investigation also produced information involving locations Hustler may have been frequenting and vehicles in which he may be travelling.

Shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, police noted one of the vehicles linked to Hustler in a Granville Street parking lot. Officers found Hustler to be a passenger in the vehicle, and he was arrested at the scene.

He is currently in custody and is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, two counts of damage to property, obstructing police, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
