Learn about free mass timber design
Free event for professionals held on May 30 in Charlottetown
Atlantic Woodworks is offering a free mass timber design workshop for design and construction professionals on Wednesday, May 30 in Charlottetown.
The workshop will take place at the Delta Prince Edward.
Atlantic Woodworks is a division of the Maritime Lumber Bureau (MLB) and Canadian Wood Council (CWC). This workshop is designed for architects, engineers, developers, building officials and other industry professionals interested in mass timber construction.
The workshop will be led by Dominique Briand, general manager of StructureFusion. Participants will learn basic mass timber design principles by working on real building project examples. At the end of the workshop, participants will understand how to begin a mass timber design, as well as what products to use and when to use them. All professionals attending the session will earn four continuing education hours and receive a personalized continuing education certificate. Architects may report the hours as structured core learning.
The workshop is being held in conjunction with the MLB’s 79th annual general meeting, themed Bridging the Link Between Growth and Sustainability.
“The MLB enforces product standards in Atlantic Canada through the Canadian lumber regulatory system, ensuring that high quality, sustainably managed wood products are available and the CWC’s work in codes and standards helps ensure market access for wood products,’’ said Kevin Merriman, executive director of the MLB.
Registration for the workshop is free for industry professionals but registrations must be received by May 25. Delegates can register online at atlanticwoodworks.ca/mass-timber-designworkshop/.
