The P.E.I. Business Women’s Association (PEIBWA) recently welcomed Margaret Magner as its new executive director.

Magner was the director of bioscience development at UPEI and continues to teach for its faculties of business and English. Her company, Magner Ink, specializes in communication services.

With a doctor of philosophy from York University, Magner has taught in colleges and universities in Canada and the United States. At the University of Southern California, she was a presidential speechwriter, a senior writer in development communications during a $2.8 billion fundraising campaign and director of corporate relations for the Marshall School of Business.

In New York she served as director of development for the William J. Clinton Foundation, heading up its fundraising department.

A produced playwright and a screenwriter, Magner is also a governor of the National Theatre School of Canada.

“We look forward to seeing what new initiatives Margaret and the PEIBWA team can spearhead in growing the organization and supporting our existing members,” said PEIBWA board president Sharon Keller. “This will be a great year celebrating the 25th anniversary of the association, and we are sure Margaret will help it flourish.”

Magner’s new role, which began at the beginning of May, was announced at the recent 2018 Women in Business Symposium, where she said she was “thrilled” to be working with PEIBWA’s board, “talented staff and dynamic membership”.

“The organization was seminal to me when I launched my own business, and it continues to empower and inspire Island women to achieve their professional goals,” she said.

“I’m honoured to be part of that process.”

The executive director of PEIBWA is integral to the continued development and management of the member-based, not-for-profit organization. The association empowers and inspires Island women to succeed in their business endeavours by providing advisory services, opportunities for development and connections with other women in business.
