Hospice P.E.I. presentati­on focuses on volunteers

Hospice P.E.I. is hosting a public presentati­on on Wednesday, May 9, 7 p.m., at the Loyalist Country Inn in Summerside.

Lisa McNeil-Campbell’s presentati­on is called “The Icing on the Cake … How Volunteers Enhance the Integrated Health Care Team.”

This presentati­on will be of interest to health organizati­ons, not-for-profits and volunteers that enhance health-care services. This is part of Hospice P.E.I.’s mandate to provide education to health care profession­als, the public and volunteer services. Donations are welcome.

McNeil-Campbell is the volunteer resources consultant for the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) in Cape Breton. She oversees more than 800 volunteers and has also been training and working with palliative care volunteers for more than 11 years.

In 2007, she completed a twoyear leadership developmen­t program as well as a volunteer management course through the Nova Scotia Community College’s human services program.

In 2015, McNeil-Campbell was awarded the Cancer & Palliative Care Support Services Award of Excellence for her work and dedication. In November 2016, she successful­ly completed her certificat­ion in volunteer administra­tion.

Since 2015, she has been a member of the NSHA Provincial Palliative Care Capacity Building and Practice Change Task Group, which was developed to address the requiremen­ts for standardiz­ed education and capacity building of health providers and volunteers within palliative care. She has also been an advisory board member for the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County for the past 12 years.
