On May 13, the Nova Scotia Bluegrass band, Roxeen and Dalrymple, will be bringing their distinctive homegrown Bluegrass sound to Summerside’s Centre 150.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this talented duo to P.E.I. for their first time,” said John Campbell, president of the Summerside Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Association. “The concert is a fundraiser for our fall festival and the audience will be treated to a wonderful mix of traditional bluegrass, gospel and classic country music by these two award-winning artists.”

The Roxeen and Dalrymple band is a classic bluegrass guitar and mandolin duet and is a tour de force of vocals, rhythm and traditional melodies. Band members are Roxeen Roberts and Gary Dalrymple.

Collectively the duo consists of highly respected veteran musicians with impressive musical resumes. They are multiple nominees of East Coast Music Awards, the Maritime Gospel Music Awards and have won numerous Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards. They have toured coast to coast in Canada and the United States and now, after careers of extensive travel and performing and recording, the duo is excited where they have now landed musically.

The duo was originally teamed together 25 years ago as bandmates of the legendary Spinney Brothers, and a life of separate musical paths has brought them back together.

“We both grew up on the sounds of Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton, and it is the style of music we are excited to be performing,” explained Dalrymple. “Our show includes many of the standards as well as some of our own material which is heavily influenced by the music we were raised on.”

The Sunday concert begins at 2 p.m. at the Centre 150 in Summerside May 13. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended and are available from John Campbell at 902-439-6830.
