Summertime Singalong set for May 6

-

Phase II and Friends will once again take the stage at St. Paul’s Church in downtown Charlottetown on Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m.

The Summertime Singalong concert is designed to help everyone shake off the winter blues and look forward to P.E.I.’s favourite time of year, says Gerry Hickey, spokesperson for Phase II.

“There is nothing better than lively music to lift our spirits and chase the clouds away. We look forward to returning to St. Paul’s. It’s one of our favourite venues.”

Hickey says doing the concert in the afternoon is an experiment as the group is trying to make it more convenient for some segments of the audience.

And the idea is for everyone to have good fun — whether by way of singing-along or toe-tap listening.

In keeping with the summer theme, there’ll be tunes by the legendary Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers, and John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.

For the lovers of country, there will be songs like “Summer’s Comin’” by Clint Black, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” by Hank Williams Jr. and a Johnnie Reid song called “Till We Meet Again”.

There is another reason why Phase II and Friends are so happy to play in this warm and friendly place.

It has to do with the church’s Outreach and Social Justice committee.

“This committee is made up of very committed people who give freely of their time and energy, in the interest of others, and the members of Phase II admire and respect their efforts,” says Hickey.

“For many people in the community, Christmas would not be the same without this group’s generosity, and that is only one aspect of the committee’s interests.”

A significant portion of ticket-sale earnings will be donated to the church’s Outreach and Social Justice projects.

The band consists of Jeanie Campbell, Keila Glydon, John McGarry, Pat King, Ed Young, Blaine Murphy and Hickey.

Admission is $10, available at the door or in advance at the office (902-892-1691) or by contacting Gerry Hickey (902393-3251) or Blaine Murphy (902-393-8379).
