Indian River Festival launching 23rd season

Artists for 2018 lineup include Lennie Gallant, Atlantic String Machine, Dennis and KINLEY and more

The Indian River Festival will kick off its 23rd year with a special open house at Historic St. Mary’s Church on Friday, June 8, at 1 p.m.

The event is free and will include several open stage events for performers wishing to have the opportunit­y to grace the stage of this venue.

“We want the entire Island community to come and enjoy music and food, and be one of the first few to step foot inside beautiful historic St. Mary’s before the season starts,” says Don Quarles, executive director of the festival.

The festival has received many accolades throughout the years including a Music P.E.I Award for achievemen­t in classical music, several ECMA nomination­s for event and venue of the year and was named in the Globe and Mail as one of the best small summer classical music festivals in Canada twice.

Known for the best in folk, jazz, blues, roots, classical, choral, traditiona­l and contempora­ry music, the summer-long festival offers a unique experience and great performanc­es. This year is no exception. “We are proud to present another incredible lineup of talent in our beautiful venue,“said Robert Kortgaard, the artistic director who’s celebratin­g his 20th year with the festival.

The lineup of artists for 2018 Indian River Festival summer season includes Sarah Slean with the Atlantic String Machine, Michael Kaeshammer, The Sirens, Lennie Gallant, Amanda Jackson, Mike Biggar, Payadora Tango Ensemble, Chris Norman, Trio Tangere, Justin Nozuka, The Sweet Lowdown, Marc Djokic & Isabel Bayrakdari­an, Dave Carroll, Dennis and KINLEY, The Ennis Sisters, Alicia Toner, Hillsburn, Ensemble Made in Canada, Nick Donneff, Meaghan Blanchard and more.
