Kings Playhouse announces season lineup

-

Georgetown’s King’s Playhouse has unveiled its summer productions as well as some new infrastructure and new faces for its upcoming season.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” is a three-person madcap performance that combines all 37 Shakespeare plays in 97 minutes.

This is an irreverent, fastpaced romp through the Bard’s plays.

Beloved Island storytellers David Weale, Alan Buchanan, Gary Evans and Dennis King bring their acclaimed “Four Tellers” show to theatre. Celebrate the Tellers’ last run with this year’s theme being “The Last Laugh.”

“For the Love of the Island: Chapter 2” is a commissioned work that returns for a second season, bringing life to traditional and original songs and the stories behind them, told by well-known Island musical group Treble with Girls (Jolee Patkai, Maxine MacLennan, Sheila MacKenzie and Norman Stewart).

“Backroads” includes traditional and original music performed by three worldclass musicians, with a modern twist. Local artists Teresa Doyle, Patrick Bunston and Ward MacDonald will provide a night of incredible music.

Back by popular demand, “Haunted Georgetown” is a guided walk through the haunted theatre and into the historic streets of the town on a spooky tour.

Also, enjoy some dancing, a light snack and perhaps even get invited to join in for a song or two with the Georgetown Ceilidh.

King’s Playhouse also announced major upgrades to the theatre, including new stage curtains and sound-dampening panels in the hall.

The theatre also welcomes two new staff members — Catherine O’Brien is the interim executive director, bringing her years of experience in professional theatre.

This year, marketing and communications will be looked after by Julia Cook, who is coming on board through the King’s Playhouse Theatre Mentorship Program.
