Twenty-two months after it burned down, Green Diamond Equipment Ltd. is expecting to reopen its John Deere dealership in Sherbrooke.

The new building is being constructed on the site of the original, at 15 Locke Shore Rd., just outside Summerside.

Store manager, Jeff Wood, said construction is going well and the company expects to start moving equipment and people to the new building sometime in June and be open for business shortly thereafter.

“It’s moving ahead every day. We’re down to fitting it out now,” said Wood.

“Most of the outside is done. There’s some painting to be done to the doors and more odds and ends.”

“The past month has brought it a long way ahead.”

Since the 2016 fire, Green Diamond has operated out of rented space in Slemon Park. The arrangement has served the company well, but it’s no substitute for a specially built facility. Everyone is eager to start working in the new building, said Wood.

“We’re just waiting patiently,” he said.

The original building was 24,000 square feet while the new one will be 35,000 square feet.

The new facility will continue to offer the same John Deere retail and repair services as it had pre-fire, however, it will no longer offer hunting and outfitting sales.

The company is planning to have an open house and grand opening event sometime after their initial June opening. A firm date will be announced later.
