Grateful for work of auxiliary members

Activities range from holding a fudge sale and mystery auction in the fall to a raffle for a hamper filled with bedding, that has a value of $300.

“Members work hard. To date, we have raised $25,000, in the past 10 years. Last year they raised $1,300. We were very fortunate to have the Union of Public Employees for the Retirees to donate $525 buy one. We also get a lot of support from people who bowl at the Charlottetown Community Centre.”

This past Wednesday, the organization held its annual banquet. Besides providing volunteer recognition, it’s when receipts from all the ticket sales are collected.

That night they raised $1,594. “So, with the money we’ve collected already, we have enough to buy four machines.”

CNIB P.E.I. is grateful for the work of auxiliary members.

“It’s amazing. They are so passionate about helping people with a vision loss. And with their donations we’re able to share a (Daisy Book Reader) with individuals who are unable to purchase them because of the price,” says Pat Hilchey, CNIB vision rehabilitation assistant. In fact, the organization appreciates the auxiliary’s work so much, it presented members with a Century of Change medal at the CNIB’s 100th birthday party, this past March.

The award was given to individuals and organizations who have made the difference.

Keating says the ladies auxiliary was honoured to receive the award.

“We’re game to continue with the auxiliary if we are able to get some new members to help continue our work.”
