Volunteer honoured, PCH Foundation recaps year and raises more than $2.4 million for Vital Signs campaign
The Prince County Hospital Foundation held its annual meeting recently, and on top of recapping the year, the foundation announced the most recent Harry T. Holman Award recipient.
The award, dedicated each year to a volunteer or volunteer group who has made significant difference at PCH. The 2018 award was presented to Susan Cameron, a long-time member of the PCH Auxiliary with over 26 years of service.
At the meeting, foundation president Patrick McSweeny announced the organization raised over $2.4 million, enabling the purchase of every item on the hospital’s greatest needs list for 2017.
“As my first year as president,
we were challenged with what I thought might be an unattainable goal. But I was wrong. Year after year, donors throughout our Island communities continue to amaze us.”
In total, $2,448,607 was raised for the hospital.
One of the foundation’s main goals in 2017 was to complete the upgrades needed for the hospital’s three operating rooms. This huge piece of the campaign goal cost $1.4 million on its own.
“Technology changes are inevitable, and we have to keep up with the times,” said McSweeny. “Thanks to a great year we have raised the funds necessary and the operating rooms are scheduled for completion over the summer months.”
The meeting also led the summation of the foundation’s events, initiatives and various boards like memorial donations, corporate donations, gifts to direct mail campaigns, the PCH Auxiliary, the Youth Who Care board and increased online giving.
Signature events play a large role in the efforts to equip PCH - including successful community galas like Grass Roots & Cowboy Boots and Lights for Life. newsroom@journalpioneer.com
