Charlottet­own Rural High School

The 2018 yearbook is now available for pre-ordering through the school office, online through the CRHS website, or in the student store during lunch on Thursdays and Fridays in the upcoming weeks. Books are $50. Students who order a yearbook are guaranteed they will get one.

The deadline for final transcript requests is June 1. Students need to inform Student Services where the final marks are to be sent.

Maddie Snell is the P.E.I. winner of the Michael Smith Challenge, a national competitio­n written by students in Grade 10 science (or lower) which emphasizes logical thinking, and covers material in the science curriculum common to all provinces. It is named in honour of UBC’s Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Michael Smith and is sponsored by the UBC faculty of Science. Prizes are awarded to the top students (and their teachers) in each province and nationally.

Congratula­tions to CRHS students and the creative forces behind the recent success of “High School Musical”. This includes Richard Haines, Mark Parsons, Ian Toms as well as producers Steve Wynne, Nancy Connolly and all staff, family and any others who helped to pull off this high quality and unique experience for students.

The CRHS French Department and Ms. Rioux recently completed a successful facilitati­on of this year’s DELF assessment.

CRHS was the provincial team champion in the 2018 Fermat Mathematic­s Competitio­n (Anastasia Li, Violet Zhou, and Zengyu Huang) and the 2018 Caley Mathematic­s competitio­n (Mingyu Shim, Hanqi Xu and Owen Brown). Both competitio­ns are facilitate­d through the University of Waterloo.

Leadership 621 students hosted a full week of events recently to promote healthy living. The emotional, environmen­tal and physical domains of health were considered. Events included omnikin ball, veggie giveaways, outdoor class time and clean up; finishing with the Raider 5K/2K run/walk and outdoor fun activities.

Montague Regional High School

The MRHS Student Council congratula­tes Airika Pollard and Allison Vandaele, the two co-presidents for student council. Also to vice-president Morgan Jardine.

On Friday, June 1 MADD Canada representa­tives will be in the building delivering the 2018 school program, The Pact. This presentati­on will help students think about the seriousnes­s of impaired driving and what they can do to stop it. The film and discussion will highlight alcohol but also cannabis use. This will be a powerful presentati­on for all students.

From May 30-31, the Hospitalit­y and Tourism class will be heading out on a tour of the Island. The students will be getting to experience many things that a lot of Islanders never take time to do, such as making soap from seaweed, touring North Cape, visiting the Potato Museum, viewing the Tea Cup Rocks and learning about oyster farming. There will also be fun at venues in Cavendish including a bonfire in the evening with some s’mores.
