CARMICHAEL Mary Kathleen (Kay)
Mary Kathleen (Kay) Carmichael, 92, of Salem Massachusetts passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on May 26, 2018 of natural causes. Kay was born in Albany, Prince Edward Island, Canada and was the daughter of Francis and Mabel (Hagen) Kelly. After raising her family, she pursued a lifelong ambition to become a healthcare provider and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. For 25 years she provided care in local hospitals and North Shore hospice. Throughout her life Kay was a devoted Catholic and an active part of her church community. She volunteered extensively at St. Joseph, St. Pius, and Ste. Anne’s church. Kay spent her summers on P.E.I. preserving lifelong friendships, building treasured memories for children, grandchildren and our large extended family. An avid baseball and hockey fan, Kay spent leisure time playing cards with family, and knitting for those she loved. She will be forever missed. Kay was a model of how to live with grace and generosity, how to be devout and accepting, to have fun and maintain dignity, to combine gentleness with strength and to be interesting while interested in others. Kay is survived by: her sister Margaret (Kelly) Foley of St. John, New Brunswick. Mum, Nana, Meme, Granana left behind six children, fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Children: Leo and Barbara of Carbondale, Colorado; Mary Patricia (Pat) Furlong and William (deceased) of Salem, MA; Robert Francis (Frank) and Beverly of Guyton, Georgia; Dorothy Sherry and Raymond (deceased) of Erin, Ontario; Catherine Beaulieu and Norbert (Bert) of Lynnfield MA and John Gregory (Greg) Carmichael and Debora of Windham, NH; Grandchildren: Chris, Scott, Matthew, Brian, Sean, Rob Carmichael; Kelly, Patrick, George, Kevin, JoAnne, Katie Furlong; Kim, Len Sherry. Great Grandchildren: Gillian, Vivienne, Liam, Owen, Zoe, James Carmichael; Tyler, Molly, Will Furlong, and Bridget Jardine, many beloved nieces and nephews and Beaulieu children, Joseph, Sheri and Brian, and their children Luke, Hannah, Joe, Gunnar, Annie; Kay was predeceased by her devoted husband of 43 years Duncan J. Carmichael and by her three brothers, Joseph, Fredrick and Gerald. ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 29, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, located on 85 Federal St Salem, MA. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at St Anne’s Church in Salem, located at 290 Jefferson Ave Salem, MA.
