Islanders considering cannabis purchase

-

Eighteen per cent of Island residents say they would consider purchasing cannabis once legal.

That’s according to an MQO Research released this week that spoke to 400 residents about their plans to purchase cannabis once it’s legal and how they planned to make the purchase.

In P.E.I., nine per cent said they were very likely to purchase cannabis; eight per cent said somewhat likely; 15 per cent said not very likely and 65 per cent said not likely at all.

Divides were found among regions, genders and ages, with 21 per cent of Queens County residents, 13 per cent of Kings County residents and 13 per cent of Prince County residents saying they were very likely or somewhat likely to make a purchase.

More males were found to consider purchasing than women: 23 per cent to 13. It was also found that those younger than 55 were more likely: 39 per cent of those 18 to 34; 16 per cent of those 35 to 54 and nine per cent of those 55 and older.

Residents who were very or somewhat likely to purchase cannabis were also asked how they would make the purchase. A retail location was preferred for 66 per cent compared to 20 per cent who said they would online.

Data collection took place by telephone from April 16 to May 8 and included 400 randomly selected residents. The margin of error is around 4.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
