The funeral for Dean MacFadyen was held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottet­own Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steven Stead officiatin­g. He was assisted by Pastor Kim Bustard who shared some words of remembranc­e. A scripture reading was read by niece Bethany MacFadyen and the poem, The Train of Life was read by Darlene MacDonald. The music for the service was sung by soloist Kristine Dunsford, guitarist David Berrigan, Dino Dunsford and organist Matthew MacLaine. The songs Leave It There and Lead Me Home were sung by Kristine and the song, Railroad To Heaven was sung by Dino Dunsford. The urn bearer was Frank MacCarvill­e. The flower bearers were grandson Taylor Perry and Chantel Melham. The honorary pallbearer­s for Dean were everyone in attendance. The interment took place in Canoe Cove Presbyteri­an Church Cemetery. Following the prayer service Piper Matthew MacLaine played Amazing Grace. Among those attending the funeral service were representa­tives of T & K Fire Equipment and friends of the Crokinole Group.

Neal Boyd, an opera singer who won NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and dabbled in Missouri politics, has died.

Scott County Coroner Scott Amick says Boyd died around 6 p.m. Sunday at his mother’s house in Sikeston. He was 42.

Amick says Boyd had a number of medical problems, including heart failure, kidney failure and liver problems. He was seriously injured in a car crash in 2017.

Boyd won the network TV show and its $1 million prize in 2008. He released the album “My American Dream” in 2009, and performed at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Boyd also ran unsuccessf­ully as a Republican for a southeast Missouri House of Representa­tives seat, losing in the general election in 2012 and in the primary in 2014.
