Charlottetown lawn-watering restrictions now in place

-

The City of Charlottetown has implemented summer lawn watering restrictions.

Seasonal water-use restrictions will be in effect from June 1 to Sept. 30. During this time, watering with a hose or sprinkler is permitted from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., to a maximum of two hours per day.

Water shortage restrictions that prohibit the use of lawn watering can be implemented at the discretion of the water and sewer utility. New sod is exempt from the restrictions for the first 30 days after it’s laid.

The city says watering deeply, but not too often, helps to promote an extensive root system.

Lawns should be watered with one inch of water once or twice a week as needed during dry periods.
