Two mainstays on Charlottetown’s bar and restaurant scene have been sold to new ownership.

Liam and Kim Dolan, owners of the Olde Dublin Pub and Claddagh Oyster House, have sold both establishments to Island businessmen Kent MacPhee and Kent Scales, effective June 1.

The restaurant and pub have been owned and operated by the Dolans for 35 years.

“We are proud and humbled to have owned and operated these businesses for as long as we have here in P.E.I. Kim and I have dedicated our whole lives to ensuring we operated a viable business that provided great product and service, something that wasn’t always easy, but it certainly was always worth it,” said Liam Dolan.

“Over the years we have been blessed with having phenomenal staff. Without them we certainly would not be in the position we are in today… Our customers have also been extremely loyal to us, which has helped with our success.”

MacPhee is an owner and former CEO of Advantage Communications. He grew up working at his parents’ restaurant, the Bonnie Brae in Cornwall.

Scales is the CEO of the Scales Group of Companies and operates a wide-ranging group of P.E.I. businesses, including Service Master, Kensington Agricultural Services Ltd., Landfest Inc. and Robin’s Donuts.

“The Dolans have set the bar high. When it comes to service and quality, Kim and Liam have earned great respect, not just locally but internationally for their leadership and dedication in the hospitality and tourism industry,” said MacPhee. “We are very much looking forward to building on their legacy and working with the great staff that are in place to continue on this tradition.”

The Dolans also praised the efforts of their son, Marc, in working long hours and late nights to represent the family at the businesses.
