DiverseCity festival to take place in Alberton for first time
The dates for this year’s DiverseCity Multicultural Street Festivals have been announced for three locations in Prince Edward Island.
The festivals, hosted by the P.E.I. Association for Newcomers to Canada, will be held in Charlottetown on Sunday, June 24, Montague on Sunday, July 15; and Alberton on Sunday, July 22.
The DiverseCity festivals are free, family-friendly events celebrating diversity, inclusion and retention in all three counties across P.E.I. On June 24, four blocks along Queen Street in downtown Charlottetown will be closed for the first DiverseCity festival of the summer. There will be international food, crafts and culture displays, demonstrations, 2-7 p.m., and continuous performances, 2-10 p.m., on the street stage.
The day wraps up with a street dance featuring I and the Village playing world dance grooves.
On July 15 Montague’s Waterfront Park will be filled with the sights, sounds and tastes of DiverseCity, 2-10 p.m. The Kings County festival will finish up with a street dance and fireworks.
On July 22, DiverseCity will take place for the first time in Alberton on Main Street.
“We are so pleased to be working with the community of Alberton to bring the festival into West Prince County,” said festival manager Mark Carr-Rollitt. “We welcome our new media partner, The Guardian and the Saltwire Network who are helping us to spread the word, and all of our other sponsors without whom we could not offer the DiverseCity Festivals.”
