’Canes add punch to lineup
Holland College signs outfielder Brett Brittany for the 2018 baseball season
The Holland College Hurricanes baseball team added an impact bat to its lineup after signing outfielder Brett Brittany to its lineup for the 2018 season.
Brittany, a Fredericton, N.B., native, spent a season at the University of Mount Olive, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina, will enrol in the culinary arts program at Holland College and said he’s excited for the fall.
“The great reputation of the culinary program is the first thing that drew me to Holland College. Then, I began hearing about the baseball team being a strong team, and a team on the rise. A team that will work hard and compete,” Brittany said in a release.
The left-hand hitting Brittany also played two seasons at the Prairie Baseball Academy in Lethbridge, Alta., twice earning all-star selections and leading the league in home runs and helped lead the Dawgs to two Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) championships.
He also captured a Western Major Baseball League championship with the Swift Current Indians (now the Swift Current 57’s) in 2016.
Hurricanes head coach Andrew MacNevin is eager to have Brittany in the fold going forward.
“Brett has had tremendous success at every level he has played, and already has made a huge impression on our program,” said MacNevin. “We are very excited to have a player of his caliber joining our program for this fall, as we continue the pursuit of winning a national championship.”
Brittany also has experience at the regional level, representing New Brunswick at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que., as well as being a two-time participant in Tournament 12, a national amateur baseball tournament held at the Rogers Centre in Toronto each September.
Holland College opens its fifth season against the Saint Mary’s Huskies Saturday, Sept. 8, at Memorial Field in Charlottetown.
