The funeral for Margaret Emmaline (McKenna) Bassett of Summerside and formerly of Albany, wife of the late Ellsworth Bassett, was held on Thursday, June 21 at St. Peter’s Church, Seven Mile Bay where funeral mass was celebrated at 10 am by Rev. Doug MacDonald who proclaimed the gospel and delivered the homily. The placing of the pall was done by Margaret’s seven children, Vivian, Marlene, Wendall, Rita, Ann, David and Deanna. Cross bearer was Karen McKenna. Altar servers were Donna Bernard and Charlie Wood. The first scripture reading was proclaimed by grandson, Christophe­r Craig and the second reading was proclaimed by family friend, Kevin Noonan. Prayers of the faithful were led by niece Diane Murphy. Combined choirs of St. Peter’s, Seven Mile Bay and St. Malachy’s, Kinkora, sang the entrance hymn, Here I am Lord; Psalm, The Lord is My Shepherd; offertory hymn, Morning Has Broken; communion hymn, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman and recessiona­l hymn, I Lift Up My Soul. Guitarists were Ramona Roberts, Mike Johnston and Gary Arsenault. Communion lay distributo­rs were Helena Hamill and Myrna Murray. St. Peter’s Parish CWL formed an honour guard in memory of Margaret. Also attending the funeral liturgy were members of Prince County Hospital Hospice Care Program. Pallbearer­s were grandsons, Anthony Craig, Victor Burke, Kendall, Kyle and Ben Bassett, Sean MacLure, Ryan DesRoches and Jacob Greenan. Flower bearers were granddaugh­ters, Jaclyn (DesRoches) Waddell and Alana (Johnson) Burgess and grandsons, Alex Johnston and Andrew and Robert Greenan. Ushers were Dale Muttart and Thomas Sherry. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora.
