Coach Trotz brings former Capitals assistant to Islanders

The Morell Chevies swept both ends of a doubleheader from the Northside Brewers, winning 2-1 in the opener and 18-10 in slugfest in Kings County Baseball League action Wednesday in Morell.

In Game 1, Troy Coffin and Jordan Stevenson locked horns in a classic pitching duel.

The Chevies struck for two runs in the third inning on back to back RBIs from Scott Harper and Desi Doyle, but DJ Dunn spoiled Coffin’s shutout bid in the bottom of the seventh with a pinch-hit home run.

Coffin finished the game allowing six hits and striking out four while Stevenson held the Chevies to four hits and struck out 12.

In the second game, the Chevies grabbed an early 5-0 lead after two innings only to see the Brewers score seven runs in its half of the second, keyed by a Nigel Fisher grand slam.

However, the Chevies answered right back in the third inning, scoring nine runs and cruising to the victory.

Leading the way for the Chevies was Avery Arsenault (4-4 with three doubles, three RBI), Harper (4-5, three RBI), Logan Gallant (3-6, home run) and Coffin (2-2).

For the Brewers, Nick Ryan, Jason MacLean, Jamie Arsenault and Jayden MacLean all collected two hits.

Brett Hicken, who entered the game in the third inning, picked up the win for the Chevies while Tyson Blue took the loss.

Barry Trotz has added former Washington Capitals assistant Lane Lambert to his New York Islanders coaching staff.

The Islanders announced the hiring Thursday, saying Lambert would be the associate coach.

The 53-year-old had served the past four seasons as the assistant coach with the recently crowned Stanley Cup champions.

Before joining the Capitals, Lambert spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.

He also served as head coach of the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals from 2007-11.

Lambert played in the NHL with Detroit, the Rangers and Quebec from 1983-88.
