First show of the Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series on July 8

- MONT-CARMEL

The Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel (CDCPMC) welcomes its Summer Concert Series back to the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall every Sunday at 7 p.m.

The first of eight shows is scheduled for July 8 and will feature Allan à Joe and Marguerite Gallant’s family (Tanya Gallant, Allan Gallant, Claudette Gallant, Marguerite Gallant, Ryan Gallant), Adyn Townes and Cynthia MacLeod. Emceeing the evening will be Philias à Ferdinand à Félicien incarnated by Raymond J. Arsenault.

The household of Marguerite and the late Joseph Gallant was always full of music. Marguerite loved playing the piano with her dad, Jaddus, on the fiddle, and Joseph was known for his vocal abilities as a bass singer as well as the director of Our Lady of Mont-Carmel choir. This musical presence inevitably influenced

their son Allan, his wife, Claudette, and their children, Tanya and Ryan. Allan has performed in groups such as Brador, La Grange à Fidèle, 1295, 4 Cord Boys and

Deux Gorgées. Tanya is one of the singers in Chiquésa, an actor in musical theatre and as an artistic director for numerous projects on the Island. They perform both traditional and modern songs that are mixed with rich harmonies and family stories that reflect the Acadian musical culture that continues to live strong within many families in the Evangeline area.

Townes turned a fall into the ocean and months of recovery into his jumping-off point for his music. Inspired by the equalparts hard and smooth voice of David Gray and the clear electric guitar tones of James Bay, he is always pushing the boundaries and seeing how close he can get to the edge. He also has a new album produced by Colin Buchanan set to be released on July 13.

P.E.I. fiddler Cynthia MacLeod has been entertaining audiences from near and far for almost two decades. With five albums and numerous Music P.E.I. and ECMA awards and nominations, she is well known for her engaging, high-energy performances while staying true to her Island roots. This performance is one of her only concerts featuring her repertoire of P.E.I., Cape Breton, Scottish and Irish tunes as she is returning as the fiddler in the band for Tara MacLean’s show “Atlantic Blue: A Celebration of East Coast Songwriters”, held at The Guild in Charlottetown. She has also been the artistic director for the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls sicnce 2016.
