TOY Joyce White

-

February 4, 1934 – June 27, 2018 You know one of those people that made you a better person just for having known them? That was Joyce, Jo, Mum, Nanny. She was a simple and kind person, the kind that they don’t make anymore.

She loved my dad, Mike, unconditionally.

For 62 years they built a quiet life that was overflowing with love. They taught people what it meant to really love someone. And the most simplest of pleasures were enough because as long as they were together, they had all they needed. Mum’s unconditional love extended to me and my brother, Gary. From the time we were born, she was always our compass, advocate, sounding board, but most of all she was our safe place to land when the world seemed big and scary. Her pride in us extended from our first steps, to our first big life events. She was always front row centre cheering us on, and catching us if we fell. We were loved to the fullest extent possible. A natural born grandmother, Chelsea was her first. Mum was there at her birth, and they continued to share many quiet and private moments together building their lifelong bond. Soon her heart filled again as Kassandra, Amanda, and Michaela followed. Each will forever carry with them memories of Nan’s love, her playful nature and the kindness she was known for. And this year Mum’s heart made room for her first great grandchild, Darien. I know that love was the foundation that Mum was raised on. Though some of her siblings have passed (Raymond, Mary, Reta, Doris), in her heart she never lost her connection to the life she shared with them growing up. She enjoyed news from her brother, Gordie, whenever possible, and the special bond with her sister Jean remained as strong as any siblings had. Mum was, in fact, the heartbeat of our small Toy family. Her gentle and loving perspective, and her selfless care for others are our gifts to remember now that she is gone. Thank you Mum for all that you taught each of us, and for always holding each of us in your heart as we will now hold you. I will miss you the most in my quietest moments, and I will continue to be grateful for you. I love you. Wendy. Mum’s wish for no service will be honoured, and for those so inclined, she noted Chrons & Colitis Canada, Canadian Cancer Society – PEI Division, or the Parkinson’s Canada – Atlantic Office for donations.
