Organizers happy with CBMF
Cavendish Beach Music Festival organizer Jeff Squires knows what it is like to battle weather. On Friday this year’s concert delayed opening due to a rain and thunder warning, but it was nothing compared to when hurricane Arthur caused the festival to shut down for one day in 2014.
“The weather on Friday was nowhere close to that,” Squires said Sunday afternoon, just past the midway point of the newly expanded four-day festival.
Friday’s original line-up was able to stay in place and everything has been running smoothly since.
Squires was pleased with how the 2018 festival had been running.
“It has been a great two and a half days so far,” he said. “There were unbelievable shows put on by Dallas Smith and Chris Young. The damp weather didn’t bother anyone.”
He was happy to see so many visitors come to the Island once again for the 10th anniversary of the festival.
“It is great to see so many visitors and so many repeat customers come back to celebrate Island tourism.”
The idea for the festival came about when Squires noticed a cow pasture in Cavendish that was not being used. Now, the event has become a staple in Island culture and one of Canada’s biggest concerts.
“It is all about celebrating P.E.I. and its culture,” he said.
“I’ve spoken with people who have been coming to the festival for 10 years straight.”
Sunday’s lineup featuring Luke Bryan was sold out.
This year, organizers added an additional day. Tonight will feature artists New City, Broods, Dan + Shay and Shawn Mendes.
