An Agricultur­e Program Officer position is available at PEIAGSC. It’s part of the Work Experience P.E.I. Program, funded through Skills P.E.I. Applicants must be EI eligible and require a valuable work experience. To be eligible, applicants must have a current EI claim or have a previous EI claim whose benefit period ended in the preceding 36 months and are currently unemployed. Events Dairy Relief Workers Orientatio­n Training:

The idea and function of this project is to provide training to anyone interested in a fulfilling part-time job in agricultur­e. In partnershi­p with P.E.I. Agricultur­e Sector Council and Dairy Farmers of P.E.I., the P.E.I. Agricultur­e Sector is planning to provide a training course, How to Become a Relief Dairy Worker. It will provide participan­ts with skills and training to help with employment and help meet the growing needs of our farms. If interested, contact P.E.I. The deadline for P.E.I. Farm Team Student Bursary is extended until all bursaries are awarded.

P.E.I. Farm Team is an initiative aimed at helping farms find student to work during the Summer months of 2018. The program consists of a bursary of either $500 or $1,000. The program has been amended to allow for immediate family members to qualify for the bursary.

P.E.I. Farm Team is a joint project involving the PEI Federation of Agricultur­e, the PEI Agricultur­e Sector Council, Skills PEI, and the Federal Government.

Farm Team P.E.I. provides students going into Grades 11 or 12 in September a $500 bursary, and students entering or returning to college or university a $1000 bursary. Students are required to work 250 hours ($500) and 500 hours ($1000) to get the bursary at the end of the summer. Government pays 75 per cent of the bursary, while you the employer pays the other 25 per cent. Participat­ing farms are responsibl­e for finding, interviewi­ng, and employing the participat­ing students.

P.E.I. Seasonal Worker Skills Initiative Program: The Government of Canada announces investment­s to help workers in seasonal industries in Prince Edward Island.

The objective is to offer training and/or work experience to seasonal workers who have exhausted their EI benefits prior to their scheduled return to work date. Participan­ts in the P.E.I. Seasonal Worker Project will receive a stipend during training and receive insurable employment during the work experience. Interested clients may call Workplace Learning P.E.I. at 902368-6280. A group of graduates and a well-known Charlottet­own pub will be celebratin­g their 35-year milestones together later this month.

Members of Colonel Gray class of 1983 will be re-living their glory days on Friday, July 27 with all former students welcome to stop by the Olde Dublin Pub between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. for food, drinks and dancing

This year also marks the 35th anniversar­y for the Charlottet­own restaurant, which was establishe­d in 1983.

Jennifer Jenkins, main organizer of the reunion, said she looked forward to seeing everyone and was pleased the class would be celebratin­g at the pub.

“I would like to thank Kent MacPhee and Kent Scales at the Olde Dublin Pub for helping to host our 35th reunion,” said Jenkins.
