Euchred lands invitational win
Dowling scores 1,000 career victory
Driver Adam Merner and Euchred have proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the invitational scene this season and the duo reunited for another top-end victory Monday during the rescheduled program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Terry Gallant-trained Euchred laid third on the pylons for the first portion of the $4,000 invitational pace as race favourite Czar Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) carved out fractions of 28.2 and 57.2. Euchred made his first-over bid through the three-quarters in 1:27 then capitalized on a late break in stride by Czar Seelster during the stretch drive.
The margin of victory for Euchred would be settled at two lengths with a clocking of 1:55.1. Czar Seelster was second followed by Mr Irresistible (Corey MacPherson) in third.
Driver David Dowling scored four wins, including his 1,000-career win. The Warren Grove reinsman scored win number 999 with Windemere Nick for trainer Earl Watts of Hampshire with a 2:00.1 score. The milestone was hit in his second win of the night in Race 7 as Flash In The Pang demolished his opposition in 1:57 by 13-lengths for trainer Pat Murphy. Dowling also visited the winner’s circle with his own Slide Guitar in 1:56.2 and Heart And Guts in 1:57.1 for Shirlene O’Brien of Burton.
Racing in Summerside will take a hiatus until Wednesday, Aug. 22, as the focus shifts to Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park for Old Home Week racing culminating in the 59th running of The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer on Aug. 18.
