Andrea Corder, Judy Yun prepare for national competitio­n

The local winners of the P.E.I. Kiwanis Music Festival are presenting their programs this evening as they prepare for the Federation of Canadian Music National Festival, which will take place at Mt. Allison University in Sackville, N.B., Aug. 12-16.

The recital will be hosted by P.E.I. Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry at Fanningban­k in Charlottet­own, beginning at 7 p.m.

A freewill offering basket will be available to assist the performers with the cost of attending the competitio­n.

Andrea Corder, soprano, graduated from UPEI with a bachelor of music degree. She studied under Stephen Bouey, Sung Ha Bouey and Margot Rejskind. She also played the role of Susanna in UPEI’s production of Mozart’s “Le Nozzi do Figaro” and performed two independen­t recitals as part of St. Dunstan’s Basilica’s organ recital series in 2017 and 2018. At the provincial festival, she was the winner of advanced vocal and the prestigiou­s Louise and Mildred Calbeck Music Award. In September, she will be attending the University of Regina in the master of performanc­e program.

Judy Yun, violin, began her studies with Sue Irvine and later with Prof. Philippe Djokic and Mark Lee from Dalhousie University.

At the provincial festival, Judy was awarded advanced violin and advanced piano awards, the Adeline Peters Ledwell Award, the Suzanne Brenton Memorial Award, the PEIMFA President’s Award. In September, she is entering Grade 11 at Colonel Gray High School.
