Dunromin to perform at King George Hall

-

The P.E.I. bluegrass band, Dunromin will take the stage at the King George Hall in Port Hill for a concert this evening.

The band, featuring Vans Bryant, Harold and Marnie Noye, John Campbell and Jim Dickson, has expanded its repertoire in recent years to include songs by Jim and Jesse, the Osborne Brothers and the Louvin Brothers, along with traditional bluegrass numbers that feature the fiddle, banjo, guitars, mandolin, dobro and stand-up bass.

Dunromin’s professional entertaining style includes strong instrumentation, tight-knit vocals, humour and audience rapport.

The group, founded in 2002, consisted of the Noyes and Bryant performing in concerts, community events and festivals on and off P.E.I. until the end of 2009.

The band then took a six-year break. In 2015, the group reunited and welcomed Campbell. Then in 2017, Dickson was added to the lineup.

The group also released a CD entitled “Making Plans” (2002) and “Memories in 2015.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. (6050 Route 12). There will be a 50/50 draw and light refreshments. The hall is wheelchair accessible.

The monthly ceilidh concert at the Bonshaw Hall will be Sunday, Aug. 26, 7-9 p.m.

All ages are welcome, and the hall is accessible for small wheelchairs.

Admission is by donation, with proceeds to the Kellan McAdam Family Fund. For more information, phone 902-6754093 or check the facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/ events/2091232517796107/ .

As well, there will be local musicians Herb MacDonald, Phil Pineau and Tony the Troubador, a 50/50 draw, delicious lunch, and open mic time.

As a member of Neptune Theatre in Halifax, Koughan most recently starred in “The Argyle Street Kitchen Party” and had Celia Koughan

Corder has been a regular at the Bonshaw ceilidhs over the last two years, performing popular and folk songs. She graduated from the UPEI music program, where she played the role of Susanna in Mozart’s “Le Nozzi do Figaro” and performed two independent recitals as part of St. Dunstans Basilica’s organ recital series in 2017 and 2018. At the provincial festival, she was the winner of advanced vocal and the prestigious Louise and Mildred Calbeck Music Award. In September, she will be attending the University of Regina in the master of performance program.

The McAdam Family Fund is in aid of Kellan McAdam, son of Tommy and Vicky McAdam and brother to Aislyn, who has been recently diagnosed with pre-B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This energetic three-year-old will require ongoing treatment for the next three to four years, both at the QEH, and the IWK, with follow-up appointments until the age of 18.
