MURPHY, Joseph Charles
The funeral for Charles Murphy, husband of the late Teresa Murphy (nee McKenna), of Cornwall, was held Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Charlottetown. The celebrant for the mass of Christian burial was Father Maurice Praught. The concelebrant was Father John Lacey who proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by his children, Brian Murphy, Diane Murphy, Wayne Murphy, Gerard Murphy and Colleen Nelson. The first reading, from Wisdom, was addressed by daughter, Diane. The second reading, from 1 Corinthians, was addressed by daughter, Colleen. Prayers of the faithful were led by daughter-inlaw, Lorri Murphy. Altar servers were Philip MacDonald, Elaine Hayward and Lowell Croken. The cross bearer was granddaughter, Rachael Murphy. Ushers were sons-in-law, Louis Laverty and Mike Nelson; and Kevin McGuire. Marlene Burke and Mike Molyneaux assisted Father Praught as Eucharistic ministers. Music was provided by the St. Pius X Funeral Choir, with Peggy Jones as organist and Eileen Flanagan as song leader. The hymns were: entrance, “Here I Am, Lord”; psalm, “The Lord is My Shepherd”; offertory, “Jealous of the Angels Tonight”, audio recording by Jenn Bostic; communion, “Come to the Water”; commendation, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessional, “Amazing Grace”. Special music played was “My Old Man” by Zac Brown Band. Heartfelt words of remembrance were shared by son Brian. Flower bearers were granddaughters, Monica Wheaton and Olivia Murphy; and great-granddaughters, Ruby Murphy and Charlie and Maddie Wheaton. Honorary pallbearers were everyone present. Pallbearers were sons, Brian, Wayne and Gerard Murphy, and grandsons, Cameron Nelson, Evan Nelson and Zac Murphy. Among those in attendance were representatives from Home Care Support, Provincial Palliative Care, Hemlock Court, Club 56 Dance Group and many friends from the Tim Horton’s on St. Peters Road. Interment took place in the Charlottetown Roman Catholic Cemetery where the committal service was conducted by Father Lacey and Father Praught. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The family of Charles Murphy would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who came to the service, the wonderful staff from Home Care and Palliative Care, as well as all the doctors, nurses and staff who had made Charles comfortable and eased his suffering in his time of pain.
