The funeral mass for Joe Byrne was celebrated Thursday, August 23, 2018, from Hillsboro Funeral Home to St. Eugene’s Church, Covehead with Fr. Keith Kennific as Chief Celebrant proclaimin­g the gospel and delivering the homily. Co-Celebrant was Fr. Charlie Cheverie. The pall was placed by daughters - Geraldine Parsons and Noreen Stymest. The first reading was proclaimed by Noreen Stymest; second reading by Anne Smith and prayers of intercessi­on by Marilyn MacDonald. Music was provided by St. Eugene’s Parish Choir accompanie­d by organist - Bernie Lamphier. The procession­al hymn was “Here I am Lord”; responsori­al psalm - “The Lord is My Shepherd”; offertory - “Amazing Grace”; communion - “One Day at a Time”; incense - “Songs of the Angels” and the recessiona­l hymn was “We Shall Go Out”. The cross bearer was Jan Meulenkamp; the altar servers were Margaret Morrison and Philip Arbing and the holy water and incense bearer was Pat Morrison. The Honorary Pallbearer­s were everyone in attendance. Pallbearer­s were grandsons - A.J. Parsons and Matthew Stymest and David Byrne, George Curran, John Kenny and Owen MacDonald. Interment followed at St. Eugene’s Cemetery with Fr. Keith Kennific delivering the graveside prayers. Following interment, relatives and friends were invited to join the family at the lower level of St. Eugene’s Church for refreshmen­ts provided by St. Eugene’s hospitalit­y committee. Completion of funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Hillsboro Funeral Home.
