Ross siblings to perform Sept. 2
Sunday Night Shenanigans returns to York Community Centre with variety of entertainers
Labour Day Weekend is a time filled with musical happenings across the Island.
One such event is Sunday Night Shenanigans, a staple of the P.E.I. roots music scene.
Hosted every week by Judy MacLean at the York Community Centre at 7 p.m., the show/ ceilidh just celebrated its 10th anniversary.
The lineup for Sept. 2 features a variety of professional and semiprofessional entertainers with such acts as Johnny Ross and his sister, Stephanie Ross.
Also taking the stage are recording artists Lester MacPherson, known as P.E.I.’s country gentleman, and award-winning vocalist Jacinta MacDonald.
The program also features veteran fiddler Buddy Longaphie and keyboardist Duncan Matheson.
The Montigny Sisters will represent the Judy MacLean dancers. As well, Emmett DeCoursey will keep the audience rolling in the aisles with his Island-style humour and songs.
Johnny “crazy legs” Ross and his sister are members of the Ross Family, which holds ceilidhs in Clinton Hills near Kensington and Stanley Bridge area.
Their music consists of Johnny’s wild keyboard antics and Stephanie’s repertoire, featuring Acadian and Island-flavoured songs, fiddle/guitar tunes and maybe some step dance moves.
The fun evening includes a 50/50 draw, a light lunch and Veseys visitor prize.
Tickets are at the door at 6 p.m. Showtime is 7 p.m.
