Elections P.E.I. registration week begins Monday
Elections P.E.I. is encouraging all eligible voters on Prince Edward Island to ensure their name is on the voters’ list for the upcoming municipal elections in November.
Monday, Sept. 10 through to Sunday, Sept. 16 is Voter Registration Week. Voters registered with Elections P.E.I. will experience quicker and more efficient service at the polls when voting in the municipal elections in Charlottetown, Cornwall, Stratford and Summerside on Nov. 5.
All registered voters in these four municipalities will receive a voter information card in the mail directing where and when to vote. Voters presenting their card at the polling stations will be able to cast their vote much faster without having to wait in any potential lineups of unregistered voters.
Voters across Prince Edward Island are encouraged to check their registration with Elections P.E.I. at www.electionspei.ca and follow the online instructions.
“The process is very easy to get registered or to update your personal information with the secure Elections P.E.I. voter registration portal,” said Tim Garrity, chief electoral officer of P.E.I.
Voters must be a Canadian citizen at least 18 years of age on or before election day and have resided in the province for at least the six-month period immediately preceding election day. They must ordinarily reside in the municipality on election day.
“If you have moved since the last election, had a name change or are now of legal voting age, we encourage you to take part in Voter Registration Week,” said Garrity. “It is a very important part of our democracy and we encourage all eligible Islanders to vote.”
