The Harmonia girls’ choir is seeking new singers for new season

Now entering its fourth season, the choir is Sirens’ premiere educational program for girls between the ages of 11 and 18.

Sirens, the P.E.I. adult choral group, invites Island teens to make new friends and discover the joys of singing in a group by joining Harmonia, “a community where girls can feel safe to find their voices through music.”

Focus is placed on strong vocal technique, musicianship and music theory, all the while having fun. Harmonia is under the direction of Kelsea McLean, with pianist Andrea Ellis, both experienced educators and private music instructors.

Harmonia has participated in the Queens County Music Festival earning the Community Youth Choir Award in 2017 and 2018. It also won the Connie and Bud Ings Award for Youth Choir at this year’s Provincial Music Festival.

The ensemble regularly collaborates with Sirens and has performed at Fanning Bank, Music Monday and P.E.I. Junior Honour Choir events.

Highlights for this upcoming season include Christmas performances with Sirens, a collaboration with the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and a spring concert. The ensemble will also compete in the Queen’s County Music Festival.

Those interested should contact artistic director Kelsea McLean (kelsea@sirenschoir.com) prior to the first rehearsal on Sept. 11. Visit www.sirenschoir. com/harmonia for more information. The Harmonia Girls’ Choir, shown during the 2017-18 season, is looking for new members for the coming year.
