Performers announced for Sept. 13

Sunday Night Shenanigan­s, now in its 10th season, is set for another show Sept. 9 at York Community Centre.

Hosted by Judy MacLean, the show/ceilidh welcomes back to the stage recording artists Cathy Jackman and Lester MacPherson beginning at 7 p.m.

Also appearing are young country recording artist Dylan Ferguson and step dancer Isabelle Saunders, plus other performers.

The weekly Lot 7 ceilidh will take place in St. Mark’s hall on Thursday, Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and lunch is included as well as door prizes.

The hall is located in Burton on recorded her first solo CD called “Follow Your Dreams”. Her own version of Hank Snow’s “I’ve Been Everywhere” has become a popular tune which has received air time on the Eric MacEwen Show. She plays at ceilidhs and concerts with her regular group, Side by Each, and recently teamed up with musicians Perry Batten and Kevin Kelly who will join her at Sunday Night Shenanigan­s to play some great traditiona­l and East Coast-style ballads.

MacPherson has nine CDs to his credit and loves to sing songs by such artists as Merle Haggard, George Jones and many classic country recording artists. He was Route 14 in western P.E.I.

The entertaine­rs are Vince Savoie and Leonard Gaudet joined by The Keynote — Mary Mullen and Clifford MacIntyre. Savoie and Gaudet have been playing together for eight years doing ceilidhs and benefits. dubbed P.E.I.’s country gentleman many years ago when he performed in the early shows at Sunday Night Shenanigan­s. He has toured Nashville and played onstage with George Jones’ original backup band.

The evening includes a 50/50 draw, a Veseys visitor prize and light lunch.

The York Community Centre is located on Route 25 and is air conditione­d/wheelchair accessible. Savoie plays fiddle and Gaudet provides vocals, rhythm guitar and fiddle, as well as doing twin fiddles.

The Keynotes perform at ceilidhs, benefits and dances. Mullen plays bass and rhythm guitar while MacIntyre does vocals and lead guitar.

Filmworks Summerside launches its seventh season on Sept. 12, with a presentati­on of the film “Puzzle” starring Kelly Macdonald and Irrfan Khan.

“Puzzle” tells the story of Agnes, a taken for granted suburban wife and mother who discovers a talent and passion for solving jigsaw puzzles, which unexpected­ly draws her into a new world where her life unfolds in ways she could never have imagined.

Founded in October 2012, Filmworks Summerside is affiliated with Film Circuit, the non-profit outreach division of TIFF, which coordinate­s a network of more than 170 community groups in 150 locations across Canada to help them access quality Canadian and internatio­nal films that would not normally play in smaller communitie­s.

Filmworks Summerside typically screens one film per month from September through late November (two in November) and January through to early May for a total of nine films.
