DENNIS, Wendell Roy

-

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing on Friday, September 7, 2018 of Wendell Dennis of Victoria by the Sea, P.E.I. Wendell’s talent and passion for scenic painting and theatre arts was known to many. After starting his career in the arts in 1964, working at the Confederation Centre of The Arts in Charlottetown, Wendell went on to graduate in Design from The National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, Quebec. His set and costume design credits for many theatre and dance companies included numerous productions for Le Theatre du Nouveau Monde, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Wendell worked as Art Director for many feature and commercial films. He taught Theatre Crafts at Montreal area colleges and taught scenic painting for several years at the National Theatre School of Canada. Feeling the urge to paint the Maritime landscape as a full-time occupation, Wendell returned to his native Prince Edward Island, where his work became much in demand. Born in Charlottetown, April 5, 1946, Wendell was predeceased by his parents Vernon S. and Ruby A. (Stewart) Dennis, and his brother Ralph Boswall Dennis. He is the dear brother of June Ives (William) and John S. Dennis (Paula). Cherished uncle of David Ives, Cindy Ives, Michael Ives (Anne), Heather Campbell (Jeff Hutcheson), and Jennifer Ives. He is also survived by five grand nieces, and two grand nephews. Wendell enjoyed sitting on his front verandah, chatting with his friends in Victoria by the Sea. Arrangements are being made to have a celebration of Wendell’s life in Victoria at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh. com
