Haddad takes run at city council
Former businessman and restauranteur Paul Haddad has announced his intention to run for city council in Charlottetown.
Haddad will be seeking the seat in Ward 1, joining a growing list of candidates that includes Alanna Jankov, Laurent Beaulieu, Ron Dowling and Gerard Ellsworth.
Voters head to the polls in the municipal election on Nov. 5.
Haddad was born and raised in Charlottetown.
“Even from a young age, I was driven to make the community better, to hear my neighbours, friends and fellow business owners out and to help where I could,’’ Haddad said.
“As a city councillor, I’ll have the opportunity to work toward truly addressing the issues I’ve been hearing about for many years
— economic development, affordable housing and community health and safety — so
Ward 1 can continue to thrive.’’
Haddad has had a varied business career that has seen him own and manage restaurants as well as properties.
He also has experience working Haddad with the City of Charlottetown and the province throughout his business endeavours.
Haddad’s campaign is focusing on affordable housing solutions, including senior living and proper use of city land, keeping in mind the protection of green spaces.
Traffic congestion to snow and garbage removal, as well as listening to opinions expressed by constituents, will be discussed in the coming weeks.
“Representing Ward 1 will be an honour,’’ he said.
“I would take the same character traits into City Hall that I’ve had in business — integrity, honesty and ingenuity.’’
