Wild, Pride see first game action

At major midget’s pre-season jamboree

- MONCTON, N.B.

P.E.I.’s two entries split their two games on the final day of the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League’s pre-season jamboree on Sunday.

The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild blanked the Saint John Vitos 5-0, and lost 3-1 to the Fredericto­n Caps to finish 2-2 (won-lost). Saturday, the Wild defeated the Northern Moose from Bathurst, N.B., 5-0, and fell 5-1 to the host Moncton Flyers.

The Charlottet­own Bulk Carriers Pride (1-3) trimmed the Moose 9-0, and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Flyers on Day 2. Charlottet­own lost 6-0 and 2-1 to Saint John and Fredericto­n on Saturday.

The Wild opens the 2018-19 regular season on the road against Saint John on Friday night. Charlottet­own’s season-opening game is in Fredericto­n on Sunday.

Kensington’s home opener is against Northern on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m., and the Wild will provide the opposition for the Pride’s first home game on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Pride 9 Moose 0

Aiden Williams and Nick Jamieson shared the shutout for the Pride.

Reid Vos, Noah Griffin and Max Chisholm all scored two goals, Cole McKeigan had a goal and two helpers while Nigel Morris and Will Morrison each chipped in with three assists to pace the Pride offensivel­y. Keegan Mitchell and Cam MacLean added single goals. Other assists went to Dylan Matthews (2), Jake Squires (2), Seth Morris, Alex Graham and Cole Larkin.

After a scoreless opening period, the Pride led 3-0 after the second.

Flyers 4 Pride 1

Four different players – Alexis Dube (1-1), Jonathan Desrosiers, Patrick LeBlanc and Cedric Bastarache – found the back of the net for Moncton.

MacLean, assisted by Morris, answered for the Pride.

Moncton took a 3-1 lead into the final frame after a scoreless opening period.

Vitos 6 Pride 0

Chris Keyes scored twice and assisted on two others to lead the Vitos, who built period leads of 4-0 and 6-0.

Jacob Ouellette, Riley Bezeau, Dalton Dunn and Jack Dickie also scored for Saint John.

Caps 2 Pride 1

Connor Doherty and Cam Thomson provided Fredericto­n’s goals while John MacKinnon netted the lone Pride marker.

The first period was scoreless, and the Caps led 1-0 after the second.

Wild 5 Vitos 0

Rookie Lucas Parsons scored four goals, and sophomore Chad Arsenault provided shutout goaltendin­g to lead the Wild. Jack Campbell also scored while assists went to Simon Hughes (3), Dixon MacLeod (2), Ethan Beaulieu, Zach Biggar and Duncan Picketts.

The Wild held period leads of 1-0 and 2-0.

Caps 3 Wild 1

Joshua Nadeau scored twice and Christian Sheen added a single to account for Fredericto­n’s scoring. MacLeod set up Parsons with the Wild’s lone tally.

The Wild led 1-0 after the first period, but the Caps were ahead 2-1 after the second.

Wild 5 Moose 0

Carson Wood’s three-goal effort paced the Wild attack while Landon Clow (1-1) and Kalib Snow added single markers. Jack Campbell (2), Alex Hutchinson, Matthew McQuaid, Ethan Reilly and Zach Biggar chipped in with assists.

The Wild held period leads of 1-0 and 2-0.

Flyers 5 Wild 1

Four goals in a 4:28 stretch in the first period sent the Flyers to a 4-0 advantage after one period. The score remained that way until the third period, when the teams exchanged goals.

Owen Cole (1-1), Patrick LeBlanc (1-1), Cedric Bastarache, Yanic Duplessis and Alex Ferguson provided Moncton’s goals.

Snow, assisted by Reilly and Colin Goodwin, answered for the Wild.
