NDP seeking candidates in three ridings

Nomination meeting set for Thursday evening in Charlottet­own

The NDP of P.E.I. will hold a nomination meeting on Thursday night for its candidates in three ridings.

Party president Leah-Jane Hayward will be seeking the nomination for Brackley-Hunter River. Charlottet­own Rural custodian Gordon Gay will seek the nomination in Charlottet­own-Hillsborou­gh Park and retired educator Lynne Thiele will seek the nomination for Stratford-Keppoch.

Hayward currently works as a tour guide with Target Tours and volunteers with St. John Ambulance and the Central Queens Soccer Associatio­n. She ran with the NDP during the 2015 federal election in Malpeque.

Gay is a past-president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1775 and has volunteere­d with Chances and the Charlottet­own Food Bank. He ran for the party during the 2015 provincial election in York-Oyster Bed.

Thiele, who moved to the Island from Saskatchew­an, is the president of the P.E.I. NDP Women’s Committee. She been outspoken on educationa­l issues and has volunteere­d with the Stratford Public Library.

The nomination meeting will be held on Thursday at the Murphy Community Centre, 200 Richmond St. Registrati­on will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

NDP leader and candidate for Charlottet­own-Victoria Park Joe Byrne will be the guest speaker.
