NDP seeking candidates in three ridings
Nomination meeting set for Thursday evening in Charlottetown
The NDP of P.E.I. will hold a nomination meeting on Thursday night for its candidates in three ridings.
Party president Leah-Jane Hayward will be seeking the nomination for Brackley-Hunter River. Charlottetown Rural custodian Gordon Gay will seek the nomination in Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park and retired educator Lynne Thiele will seek the nomination for Stratford-Keppoch.
Hayward currently works as a tour guide with Target Tours and volunteers with St. John Ambulance and the Central Queens Soccer Association. She ran with the NDP during the 2015 federal election in Malpeque.
Gay is a past-president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 1775 and has volunteered with Chances and the Charlottetown Food Bank. He ran for the party during the 2015 provincial election in York-Oyster Bed.
Thiele, who moved to the Island from Saskatchewan, is the president of the P.E.I. NDP Women’s Committee. She been outspoken on educational issues and has volunteered with the Stratford Public Library.
The nomination meeting will be held on Thursday at the Murphy Community Centre, 200 Richmond St. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
NDP leader and candidate for Charlottetown-Victoria Park Joe Byrne will be the guest speaker.
