The funeral for Joseph Buote, longtime beloved resident of the Prince Edward Home and formerly of North Rustico, was held on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, North Rustico. The pastor for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Arulraj Santiago. The celebrant was Reverend Brendon Gallant, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The first reading, from Job, was addressed by friend, Elizabeth Dalton, who also led the Prayers of the Faithful. The second reading, from Romans, was addressed by Carol Probert. The altar servers were Estelle Bourgeois, Vernon Buote and Cathy Peters. The cross bearer was Curtis Gallant. Carl Pineau assisted Father Gallant as a Eucharisti­c minister. The music was provided by the church choir with Sister Phyllis Gallant, CND, as organist; and Noreen Down as song leader. The hymns were: Entrance, “God Gives His People Strength”; Psalm, “Psalm of the Good Shepherd”, with Noreen Down as cantor; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Celtic Alleluia”, with Noreen Down as cantor; offertory, “Help Us To Help Each Other”; communion, “Seek Ye First”; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary pallbearer­s were everyone present. The bearer of honour was sister, Cecile Buote. Among those in attendance were staff from the Prince Edward Home. Interment took place in the church cemetery where Reverend Gallant conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen`s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
